Job Introduction

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Building Maintenance Technician to join our Engineering and Facilities team based at one of the most advanced warehouses in the UK.

Our purpose built, one million sq. ft. distribution centre at Amesbury, Wiltshire supports our plans to increase our store portfolio from 550 to 900 stores. 

The Building Maintenance Technician will help maintain our building fabric, services and equipment and is responsible for day to day maintenance tasks, ensuring the Company’s facilities provide a safe, secure clean and well maintained environment.

This role is fundamental in supporting the Distribution Centre to operate at its full potential, maintaining equipment to a high standard and keeping production/area downtime to an absolute minimum.

Role Responsibility

  • Assist in maintaining plant/equipment to reduce downtime
  • Complete repairs to walls, floors, bump rails and doors
  • General building fabric repairs/maintenance
  • Complete weekly sprinkler tests
  • Assist Engineers with Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) to facility systems, such as HVAC, emergency lighting, electrical generators, fire alarm systems, compressor and baler
    checks, and boiler and water systems
  • Work at height (scaffold and scissor lifts)
  • Ensure all Facilities’ critical spares are managed appropriately through the inventory control
    system (CMMS)
  • Ensure work is carried out in accordance to good practice, legislation and Company standards

The successful candidate will be reliable and hardworking and enjoy the fast pace of a Distribution Centre as well as dealing with busy workloads.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience of basic building fabric or equipment maintenance or be able to demonstrate a desire to enter this field with possible advancement to more specific fields (electrical/plumbing/facilities engineering)
  • Working at heights is essential
  • Strong DIY skills or experience of basic mechanical/electrical/engineering background
  • Skills and Competencies
  • Demonstrate practical ability ‘on tools’
  • Computer literate; namely Word and Excel
  • Adaptable to carry out a wide variety of tasks as instructed in line with skills and capability
  • Must hold or be working towards any recognised electrical, plumbing, facilities maintenance certifications or have a desire to do so
  • Previous experience of working in commercial and industrial environments and site based maintenance is preferred but not essential

Package Description

  • £23,000 - £29,000 base salary DOE
  • For candidates looking to start their apprenticeship (facilitated by Home Bargains) the starting salary would be £23,000, incrementally increasing to £29,000 over the four year apprenticeship
  • 4 on 4 off shift pattern working from 6am - 6pm
